Tools You Can Use

Toward Safer Schools:
Building a Caring Culture

It should not be a surprise to learn that many of the students who committed terrible acts of violence against their teachers and classmates were the victims of school bullies. Violence begets violence.

Establishing caring cultures in schools can help reduce the incidents of bullying and harassment some students face. What's more, when students are kind and have empathy for others, the caring culture that then emerges can help offset other kinds of antisocial behavior, such as drug and alcohol abuse.

Learn more about how to establish a positive school culture and climate. Review an extensive collection of ASCD articles and resources on the topic.
