Sharing the Practitioners' Perspectives
The School-2-Home Communication Forum (S2H) held an online discussion forum in March. District leaders were asked to share ideas they had for encouraging parents of middle and high school students to become or stay involved in the education of their children.

The Bowling Green (Kentucky) School District posted this comment:

Parent Help Desk - Brings Parents into the School

We recently hired a full-time Parent Involvement Coordinator. Her job is to plan and organize events which bring parents to the schools. Through her work, we began a Parent Help Desk at the middle school level. Parents volunteer to work 2-hour shifts during the day, greeting and directing visitors to the building. This allows parents to get to know the faculty and staff, and adds another level of security to the front office, which can be very busy with daily in-and-out traffic.
